The third leg of the 2010 Archery World Cup in Ogden, Utah will open athlete registration on Wednesday, Feb. 3. The world class event is scheduled for Aug. 3-7, and open to recurve and compound archers whose member associations are in good standing with FITA. Participating countries can register with the Ogden Organizing Committee (OCOR) through Online Registration System which is located at the event's website www.ogdenwc.com. The online registration system eliminates all of the registration forms and will be used to communicate deadlines to team managers. All teams are encouraged to make their reservations using online registration system.
This premiere event will be held at Weber State University with the finals contested at picturesque Lindquist Field in Ogden, the same competition venues as the 2009 World Archery Youth Championships that brought over 600 youth archers and coaches to the United States. Ogden will also host the Archery World Cup in 2011 and 2012. This year's World Cup event is expected to bring at least 300 participants from more than 30 countries to Ogden.
If you or your country has guests or family that plan to attend the event, please direct them to the event's website www.ogdenwc.com to make reservations, schedule transportation, daytrips and gather general information about the city and the event.
The recurve archers will compete in individual, team and mixed team categories with a 70-meter qualifying round, followed by an Olympic Round to determine the top place winners. Compound archers will qualify through a 50-meter round in the new set scoring system, with the finals being shot again from a 50-meter hit/miss scoring round in individual, team and mixed team categories.
Archers compete at the four qualifying stages earning valuable qualifying points in hopes of earning one of the 32 athlete positions that will compete in the World Cup finals in Edinburgh, Scotland, Sept. 18-19. The 2010 World Cup season will start in Porec, Croatia on May 4-8, with the second and fourth qualifying events being hosted in Anatalya, Turkey and Shanghai, China, respectively.
The Archery World Cup, which started in 2006, has been a popular event for athletes, sponsors, media and fans. The FITA-sanctioned event allows organizers to select unique competition venues, which included hosting the finals by shooting over a canal at the 2009 Archery World Cup in Denmark, and competing from a floating platform at the 2006 final in Dubai. The Archery World Cup has grown into one of the annual premiere events for the international federation that attracts approximately 300 athletes from 30 countries at each of the various qualifying stages.
The 2010 Archery World Cup in Ogden is made possible by partnerships between the International Archery Federation (FITA), Easton Sports Development Foundation, USA Archery, Ogden Weber Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Utah Sports Commission.
